Millennium Chambers is pleased to report that Miss Jabeen Akhtar recently secured a suspended sentence in a case involving serious assault allegations.

The defendant, AH, was initially charged with s.18 grievous bodily harm (GBH) after the victim sustained significant injuries during an incident of group violence. The charges were later reduced to s.47 assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), to which AH entered a guilty plea.

The prosecution further alleged that AH and his brother were in possession of weapons at the time of the offence. This was strongly denied. At trial, following careful review of the CCTV footage and successful challenges to aspects of the prosecution’s medical evidence, the Crown decided not to continue with the weapons allegations.

Although the sentencing judge described the matter as the “most serious ABH,” after submissions he imposed a suspended sentence despite the defendant’s prior convictions for assault.

This case demonstrates the value of thorough preparation and effective advocacy in ensuring fair outcomes in serious criminal matters.
