Sapna Devi successfully defended HR, a man without prior convictions, whose trial on two counts of rape collapsed when the Crown failed to present any evidence against him. During the proceedings, it came to light that the complainant had previously made false allegations of rape unrelated to the case at hand. Sapna advocated for the disclosure of this information, which revealed the complainant’s history of untruthful statements regarding a separate incident, thus undermining the credibility of their testimony. Following cross-examination by Sapna, the Crown initiated a case review and ultimately withdrew all charges against HR on the second day of the trial.
