Steve Nikolich

Background

Steve is a highly experienced criminal barrister with more than 30 years’ experience in criminal practice. He joined Chambers in January 2015 following a substantial career as a solicitor and solicitor advocate.

Before coming to the Bar, Steve was a partner at Olliers Solicitors and subsequently a partner and Solicitor Advocate at Nikolich Carter, where he regularly appeared in the Crown Court. His background gives him an excellent understanding of case preparation, litigation strategy and client care from the earliest stages of proceedings through to trial.

Steve accepts instructions across all areas of criminal law and regularly appears in both the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court. His broad practice includes serious violence, drugs, dishonesty and fraud, driving offences and general crime. He has considerable experience in serious and complex cases and has appeared both as a leading junior and as a led junior.

A significant proportion of Steve’s current practice involves defending allegations of sexual offending, an area in which he has developed particular expertise. He is regularly instructed in cases involving rape, sexual assault, indecent images and other offences under sexual offences legislation. His experience encompasses both recent and historic allegations, including cases involving young or vulnerable witnesses and defendants, multiple complainants and complex evidential issues.

Steve is known for meticulous preparation, sound tactical judgement and effective advocacy. His approachable and straightforward manner enables him to build strong relationships with clients, including those facing serious and sensitive allegations. Drawing on more than three decades in criminal practice, he provides clear, realistic advice while ensuring that every case is prepared thoroughly and presented robustly.
