Sapna successfully defended a man who faced a four count indictment of rape, false imprisonment, and assault by penetration.
The Crown’s case was this was a stranger rape case where the Complainant had met the Defendant on a dating application and she had been raped and falsely imprisoned. Under cross-examination, the Complainant accepted she had met the Defendant on more than one occasion and had a sexual relationship with him. At trial, Sapna highlighted various aspects of the Police’s investigation and careful cross-examination of the Crown’s cell site expert. At the conclusion of the trial, the Defendant was acquitted unanimously by a jury of all four counts in under an hour.
