Melissa focuses on data protection, privacy, and commercial affairs concerning information. With a comprehensive understanding of various facets of information, she has expertise in all aspects of information, including compliance with data laws, regulations, access, disclosure, ownership, confidentiality, and reputational issues, adeptly addressing individual and corporate perspectives.

Her advisory scope encompasses both contentious and non-contentious matters, with a specialisation in the GDPR/UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000, EU Privacy and Data laws, Defamation Act 2013, breach of confidence, database rights, and misuse of private information. Melissa’s expertise extends to regulatory and criminal investigations, enabling her to counsel on statutes such as the Malicious Communications Act 1988, Computer Misuse Act 1990, and criminal offences outlined in the Data Protection Act 2018.

Beyond her legal practice, Melissa collaborates with respected non-governmental organisations, lending her insights to produce guidance, shape policy documents, and contribute to various projects. Her collaborative endeavours have included partnerships with globally recognised entities such as the World Health Organization, the Open Institute (Africa), the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, and the ISEAL Alliance.

Recognised for her proficiency, Melissa holds certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals as an Information Privacy Professional in European Data Law (CIPP/E). She is also an accomplished author, having penned numerous journal articles and books exploring the intricate intersections of privacy, data protection, and technology.
