Expertise

Gerard is a criminal and regulatory barrister specialising in cases that require expert advocacy skills. He has experience in drug trafficking, serious violence and dishonesty offences. He represents clients throughout England and Wales.

Gerard was called to the bar in 2010. Before this, he qualified as a solicitor in 2002. He was the managing director and co-founder of a well-established firm of solicitors in the West Midlands that specialised in criminal and mental health law.

Gerard has experience with a full range of criminal offences but is a specialist in mental health law and is sought out to represent defendants with mental health issues before the Court.

Gerard is renowned for putting clients at ease and developing a rapport quickly.

Gerard is Public Access accredited and accredited to undertake litigation. He does accept direct instructions from lay clients.

MURDER AND SERIOUS VIOLENCE

R -v- F | Importation of 1.5 tons of Cocaine via Port of Dover.

R -v- M | County lines drugs conspiracy involving supply of heroin and crack cocaine between Birmingham and Scotland.

R -v- T | County lines drugs conspiracy involving supply of heroin and cocaine between West Midlands and Lincolnshire.

R -v- G | A case of causing death by dangerous driving involving a mobile telephone.

R -v- E | A serious case of money laundering involving the laundering of alleged proceeds of drug trafficking to a value over £1 million.

R -v- K | A matter in which the defendant was alleged to have been involved in what was described as the largest illicit factory to produce amphetamine.

R -v- B | Operation Aridity, led by Mr Michael Duck KC, related to the alleged high-profile murder of a young person by a group of males, including adults and youth defendants.

R -v- S | Led by Miss Rachel Brand KC, allegation of domestic murder.

R -v- M | Led by Mr David Crigman KC, extremely forensically complex murder allegation in a domestic context.

R -v- K | Case of causing serious injury by dangerous driving involved a mentally disordered defendant running down a family member.

R -v- L | Case involving a defendant suffering from an acute psychotic episode that drove his vehicle into road workers, killing one worker and seriously injuring another.

R -v- B | Case involving an inpatient at a secure mental health hospital who allegedly sexually assaulted numerous hospital staff members.
