Millennium Chambers is pleased to share that Graham Blower successfully secured the acquittal of a client in a complex three-month firearms trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

The case involved multiple defendants charged in connection with the transfer, manufacture, and conversion of imitation firearms. Due to the unique circumstances of the client, a man with Tourette’s Syndrome, the trial was conducted with special measures to ensure he could participate fairly. This included arrangements for him to follow proceedings remotely, preventing the jury and co-defendants from being distracted by his regular outbursts.

Throughout the trial, Mr Blower worked closely with the defendant and his Appropriate Adult to provide ongoing support, guidance, and updates, ensuring the client was properly engaged and prepared to give evidence.

At the conclusion of the trial, the jury acquitted the defendant. Other defendants were convicted, with sentences including terms of up to 26 years’ imprisonment.

This case highlights both the importance of robust defence advocacy in serious criminal proceedings and the role of special measures in ensuring access to justice for vulnerable defendants.
