Millennium Chambers is pleased to report the acquittal of a client charged with murder, secured by Bill Evans of Millennium Chambers following a retrial in April 2026.
The case has an uncommon procedural history. The client was convicted of murder in 2023 and received a life sentence with a minimum term of 29 years. Bill Evans settled the grounds of appeal against that conviction, arguing that the trial judge had erred in law in admitting certain evidence. The Court of Appeal accepted those submissions, quashed the conviction, and ordered a retrial.
That retrial took place in April 2026. At the close of the prosecution case, the defence made legal submissions to the judge inviting the court to stop the case. The judge acceded to those submissions and directed an acquittal. The client was formally found not guilty of murder.
Bill Evans was instructed throughout by Richard Cronin of O’Keeffe Solicitors, London.
