OPERATION SANDPIPER (2024) | Involved the trial of ten defendants at the Crown Court at Manchester before Goose J; all ten were accused of the murder of a 16-year-old boy, with manslaughter in the alternative. Rebecca represented a 15-year-old defendant (aged 13 years at the time of the allegation), who was one of those acquitted by the jury on all counts.
R v NVAAH WHITTER (AND OTHERS) (2024) | Rebecca represented one of two defendants who were acquitted following a trial at the Crown Court at Nottingham before Goss J. The case saw 9 defendants charged following a machete attack in Walsall town centre.
R v ROBERT ORREY (2024) | Rebecca represented the defendant who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and killed his mother by beating her with a hammer, and attempted to kill his father. The Prosecution accepted a guilty plea to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility. He was sentenced to a hospital order.
R v LG (2024) | Rebecca represented a 15-year-old accused of murder. She, together with her two co-defendants, physically assaulted a man in a park who subsequently died from internal injuries. The prosecution accepted pleas to unlawful act manslaughter and the defendant was sentenced to 18 months DTO.
R v BOYCE, DALY AND STEPHENSON [2023-2024] | Rebecca prosecuted the defendants for murder and robbery, arising out of a murder for gain over a dispute over the ownership of an electric bike. The deceased Ronique Thomas was stabbed multiple times on the High Street in Kings Heath. Terrell Boyce was convicted of murder and robbery, and was sentenced to detention for life, with a minimum of 25 years. Nathaniel Daly was convicted of manslaughter and robbery. Kody Stephenson was convicted of robbery.
R v MARGOL (2023) | Rebecca prosecuted this murder case in which the allegation was that the defendant beat a taxi driver to death. It involved complicated issues of causation due to the deceased’s pre-existing heart condition.
R v HARRISON (2023) | Rebecca’s represented a mother charged with gross negligence manslaughter, arising out of the death of her 14-month daughter. Rebecca’s client admitted taking drugs whilst bathing her baby. The defendant passed out, and her daughter drowned in the bath.
R v HUSSAIN [Operation Baritone] (2021-2023) | Rebecca defended in this multi-handed case. The case involved a fatal drive-by shooting, and Rebecca’s client was charged with joint enterprise murder. The Prosecution case was that Rebecca’s client organised the murder. It was a case that arose out of a feud, and therefore involved extensive legal argument surrounding gang material. The jury could not reach verdicts of respect of Rebecca’s client. At the re-trial, Rebecca’s client was acquitted of murder, and convicted of manslaughter in the alternative.
R v WEBB [Operation Satchel] (2020-2022) | The case involved a conspiracy to commit sexual offences involving seven children. The accused persons were said to be three generations of family members and friends. Rebecca’s client was the mother of two of the children. She was vulnerable due to having a learning disability, and required an intermediary. The cases involved complex legal and factual issues. Involved Section 28 video recorded cross-examination of vulnerable complainants. It was one of the biggest cases of its kind dealt with by the UK Family Court presided over by MacDonald J.
